Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) was established in 1984 by Dr G. Viswanathan (Minister in Tamil Nadu Govt.) as a self-financing institute named Vellore Engineering College. In 2001, the Vellore Engineering College was granted the University status by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. The institute is accredited Grade A by NAAC and is approved by UGC. The main aim of VIT is to impart impeccable technical knowledge to its students so that they become technologically superior.
