University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun also known as Petroleum University, Dehradun is the first university in India which provides UG, PG and Doctoral Programs in the core sector of petroleum and Energy. UPES established by the endeavour of Hydrocarbons Education and Research Society. UPES collaborated with Laureate International Universities network and it also received the World Oil award.
UPES has been created under an Act of Uttarakhand State Legislature notified vide Government of Uttarakhand Notification No. 830/Higher Education/2003-3(18)/2003 dated September 1, 2003. However, the Governor of Uttarakhand is the Visitor of the University and the Principal Secretary, Higher Education; Govt. of Uttarakhand is the “Representative” of the State Government on various Boards of the university.
More than 100 courses are offered by the institution for the aspirants of engineering, management, law and designing. The degrees covered under courses include Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Computer Application, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Science, LLB, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Master of Business Administration, Master of Technology, Master of Design and Ph. D. All of these courses and degrees are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), so that the course may serve the students in its best way and help them learn the best out the offered degrees.
UPES Dehradun students & faculty have published 1300+ Research Articles, have filed for 40+ Patents and have partnered with International organizations & universities for 80+ research collaborations.
Scholarship-
UPES offers various scholarships for meritorious students, besides Scholarships from Uttarakhand & Central government. The students need to apply in a separate form (available on UPES website) at the time of admissions to avail these scholarships.

Both campuses of the university provide residential facility to more than 2000 students. Hostel rooms will be allocated to students on a first-come-first-serve basis. The college has taken care of the comfort for their students as they had installed many facilities at hostel buildings of both campuses.
Other recreational facilities including a playground, sports complexes, common reading rooms, open laboratories are available at the UPES University campuses. The University keeps organising events at the University campus like Athletics Meet, Annual Blood Donation Camp, UURJA Annual Youth Festival, Uurja Club Volleyball tournament, Athletics Meet, Handball Tournament, Anti-Substance Abuse Campaign e.t.c.
