Kalasalingam University was started as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering in the year 1984. It was an accredited grade ‘A’ by NAAC. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, Ph.D. and M.Phil programs in various streams.
Kalasalingam University Admissions for most of the programs is done on the basis of merit, but for courses namely B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech and Ph.D., applicants are selected on the basis of the marks secured by them in the entrance exams conducted by the university (KUEE) and for B.Arch, applicant’s score in NATA is taken into consideration and GATE scores are considered for admission to M.Tech program.

Green Campus
The green campus has scenic views under the southern western ghats, sprawling over 163 acres, with 23 lacs sq ft of buildings and 11 lacs sq ft greeneries. 'Cleanliness' in the Cambridge dictionary means either the circumstance of being clean or that of keeping or making things clean. Cleanliness is one of the first commandments of health. Moreover, it is applicable physically, mentally, spiritually and environmentally.
Thus, a number of initiatives are taken in the campus in order to make it clean and green.
Wastewater Treatment Plant
A modern automatic computerized sewage treatment facility imported from Germany, this plant has been put up in the campus to recycle used water from the various hostels and main buildings. It is the recycled water which waters the coconut grove as well as the campus garden. The sewage treatment plant is Pollution Control Board approved and does a lot to save the environment.
Solid Waste Recycling
The vegetable and food wastes generated from hostels or other biodegradable wastes are segregated and treated biomass by vermicomposting. The organic wastes materials are fed to the earthworms and excreted in form of "vermicasts", which are nitrate-rich and mineral-rich in phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. These are distributed to Agricultural lands of University as well as supplied to agricultural lands nearby.
Solar Energy
Most of the electrical energy consumed during the day is produced by the in-house solar production units of the University. Six academic blocks with a total capacity of 830+ kW of energy is produced from this unit and shared with the Electric Grid, saving the Nations electrical crisis. More than 150+ solar street lights are installed in the campus that glow automatically at night without any direct electric support.
