The Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) in Chennai was founded in 1998 as a Vinayaka mission university affiliated institution. It was afterwards associated with Chennai's Anna University. The institution was absorbed into Vinayaka Missions University, Salem, in 2004.
The institute has received ISO 9001:2008 certification. The institution is NAAC accredited. The major programmes were accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).The University has introduced Structured Choice based Credit System(SCBCS) for all the programmes and adopted Outcome based Education(OBE).The Institution has introduced Skill based learning, Research based learning in the Teaching and Learning process.
The vision of the college is imparting Quality Technical Education focusing on the betterment of the Society, emphasizing on the ethical values. Their mission is to create and develop “Centres of Excellence” in Aarupadai Veedu Institute of Technology offering Engineering, Technology and Management Education providing opportunities for the rural students to enrich their knowledge to contribute to the Society, the Nation and the World.
They have a student friendly faculty strongly supported by list of emient adjunct faculty from industries for handling specialised courses and to mentor specific activities. The college wishes that every student, their parents and teachers all the best in life who have contributed extensively in this "society building exercise". The institution is committed to impart quality education to the students from different socio-economic backgrounds.

The curriculum that AVIT offers practices the Choice Based Credit System framework. The programmes are offered in alliance with reputed industries in order to prepare them for the technical workspace. AVIT emphasises on Multidisciplinary Research to endow the academic research community.
All the interested candidates who want to take admission in AVIT Chennai, can do it through the Scholarship in B.E. / B.Tech. programmes of their choice by applying for VMRF-SMART 2022-23.
The different scholarships are available for the different programmes are listed below. The candidates must choose them as per their course and the type of scholarship which they are eligible for. The students must carefully check all of these and go ahead with the admission process. The students can also visit the official website of the college to check the full details.
Different Choices for Admissions
VMRF stands for Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation Students' Merit Assessment and Ranking Test (for Engineering). This is a scholarship that is granted to the meritorious and deserving candidates to empower the future generation with high quality education.
2. The SMART EDGE
Another scholarship for the students to avail easy admission is the Smart Edge. In this scholarship, the top 25 rank holders will get a waiver of 75% off on the tuition fee. The rank holders from 26 to 100, will get a waiver of 50% in the tuition fee. This is a great way and an amazing opportunity for the students to score good marks and get the tuition fee deduced to almost half.
The minimum eligibility is 60% in qualifying examination for availing this scholarship. The candidates applying for the Undergraduate Engineering courses should have passed 10+2/Intermediate or Equivalent Examination. Candidates appearing for April/May 2022 exams can also apply. The candidates can avail scholarship based on 10+2/Intermediate or Equivalent Examination overall aggregate/VMRF-SMART ranking whichever is higher.
3. Merit Scholarship
The candidates who are interested in taking B.E/B/Tech admissions in AVIT Chennai must have completed 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by any State Board, Central Board of higher Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi). Or they could have cleared the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE, New Delhi);.
National Institute of Open Schooling; Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board / University, High School Certificate Examination of the University of Cambridge or equivalent.
Apart from this, the candidates with a Diploma in Engineering / Technology awarded by the State Board of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu or its equivalent are eligible to apply for admission to the third semester of B.E. /B.Tech. in the branch corresponding to the branch of study. Also, the graduates in B.Sc, (10+2+3 stream) are eligible to apply for admission to the third semester of B.Tech.
All of the University's campuses are meant to be environmentally friendly and maintained with huge gardens and recycled water plantations. The university's whole campus is designated as a no-smoking zone. AVIT is located on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) about 50 kms from Chennai.
It has a beautiful surrounding of the lush green campus and along with that, it also has IT giants such as Wipro, TCS, INFOSYS and Cognizant, and many more as its onlooking neighbours. The strategic location of these companies is helpful to engineering students for training as well as placements.
The following are some of the major projects that have been implemented:
AVIT has dedicated Internet Leased line which is accessed from anywhere in the campus which helps the student in their academics
The campus has a Broadband Wi-Fi connectivity enabling the students to access internet 24 X 7 with 200 Mbps bandwidth. The college has enough classrooms and labs with state of the art equipments. They even have computer facilities attached to every department.
The Institution has a well-stocked Library with adequate textbooks, reference books, National and International journals, DVD Library and e-learning facilities in the digital library. The Library has National Digital Library (NDA) access and installed Swayam Prabha DTH Channel facility for Swayam/NPTEL and other MOOC online courses.
The college has a progressive approach towards the growth of the students and believe in the overall development of the students. The institution encourages participation and membership in Professional Societies for both students and staff.
The Professional Society Chapters in the College are Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers ( IEEE ), Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers ( IETE ), IEEE – Communication Society, IEEE - Computer Society,IEEE – Power and Energy Society, Society of Automotive Engineers ( SAE ), Indian Institute of Production Engineers ( IIPE ), IEEE – Women In Engineering Society (IEEE – WIE ), Broadcasting Engineers Society of India ( BES), International Society of Automation ENFUSE and Indian Institute Metals(IIM).
Lots of technical activities are arranged for the college students seminars, industrial visits, training programme through the technical associations of the various departments.
They even conduct Workshops, National Conferences and Faculty Development Programmes for the students to take part in and excel. Some of the socially active programmes held by the college for the betterment of the students and the society are blood donation camps, village adoption programmes and literacy programmes.
They even have some of the State of the art research facilities like Bosch Lab, Intel Intelligent Lab, IOT Lab, Digital Twin Technology Lab, Nanotechnology Lab | Consultancy to the Industries.
